The Future Of Apologetics & Evangelism

WOW!  It’s amazing to see how God is using The Village here in Fayetteville – and around the world!

Below is a brief overview of what we are doing…and what we’re planning…in our effort to reach our world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Transparent Background MarA trains students to defend their faith and lead skeptics to Christ.  This group started with 2 students.  As of February, 2014, LOA was on 4 campuses in the Fayetteville area and involved dozens of students. In June, 2013, LOA became a pilot program for Ratio Christi College PrepIn July, 2015, Village Baptist Church became the RCCP NATIONAL LAUNCH & SUPPORT SITE.  VBC is handling the launch and support of new chapters across the nation until additional regional sites are in place.  RCCP is a national effort to train high school students to defend their faith AND reach their future college campuses for Christ.  These students study why they believe what they do, participate in street/drama evangelism, and travel annually to Honduras to minister to adults, teens, and children.  In June 2014, LOA soft launched its first INTERNATIONAL Living Out Acts team in the village of Piliquin, Honduras (VLH: Vivimos de Los Hechos).  In the summer of 2017, LOA will return to Honduras and we are looking at a trip to Romania.

Our high school students go out on the street and door to door to share the Gospel every week!  When weather permits, LOA students incorporate dramas performed on street corners and sidewalks in order to start conversations about Jesus Christ!

Our F.A.I.T.H. Ministry has been reorganized.  For 15 years, we had done F.A.I.T.H. Evangelism Training in basically the same manner as when we began.  We now use a proven model for apologetics & evangelism training; the Living Out Acts model.  Like we’ve done with high school students, we are developing teams of believers who are obedient to the Great Commission and who are willing to partner with other believers in order to carry it out.   It incorporates deeper discipleship, more intensive apologetic training, and taking the Gospel to places where people gather; workplaces, coffee shops, bookstores, etc.  Our plan is that this team will also participate in overseas missions and will spawn similar groups in other churches.

ratio_christi_ICON_biggerStudents.  Fully Equipped.  Fully Engaged.  Ratio Christi (Latin for ‘The Reason of Christ’) is a global movement that equips university students and faculty to give historical, philosophical, and scientific reasons for following Jesus Christ. Bringing together faith and reason to establish the intellectual voice of Christ in the University, Ratio Christi is planting student led apologetics clubs at universities around the world. Students, engaged in the battle for the mind, learn to defend God’s existence, the reliability of the Bible, and the fact of Christ’s resurrection. We seek a Renaissance of Christian Thinking in the University.

In 2015, we launched TWO RC CHAPTERS at local universities!  Methodist University approved our application and RC @ Methodist is an official club.  Fayetteville Technical Community College denied our application because we insist that officers are believers.  We now operate on campus as an outside 501(c)(3).  You can follow our progress via the following links:

Village Baptist Church held it’s first “NC Regional Apologetics Conference” in 2009.  It included apologists who were just beginning their ministries and those were already leaders in the study of apologetics.  We’ve held 3 conferences since and speakers have included Alex McFarland, Frank Turek, Josh McDowell, Greg Koukl, Brett Kunkle, Ted Wright, Mike Licona, Nabeel Qureshi, Mary Jo Sharp, Richard Howe, and many more (too many to mention here).  On AUGUST 1st & 2ND, 2014 we held our 4th ENGAGEtheMIND Apologetics Conference (formally NC Regional Apologetics Conference) featuring Brett Kunkle, J. Warner Wallace, Ted Wright, Richard Howe, Michael Sherrard, Dr. Richard Land, and speakers from TEAM out of Southern Evangelical Seminary. We are hoping to hold our next ENGAGEtheMIND Conference in 2017!

All of the above began as dreams.  They were made POSSIBLE through the work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts and minds of His people.  They have exceeded our expectations.  Even MORE is possible!  It is going to take your participation to get these ministries off this web page and make them happen!  Prayerfully and passionately consider being an active part of our Apologetics & Evangelism Ministry.

Please contact Rev. Kevin Duffy, Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship, for more information and/or to express your interest in any of the proposed ministries listed above.
