J. Nickolas Smith, Pastor of Pastoral Care and Village Kids
Pastor J. Nickolas Smith, a native of Fayetteville, answered the call to ministry as a teenager at Massey Hill Baptist Church. After receiving a BA in Religious Studies from Campbell University in 1982 and a Master of Divinity with Religious Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1985, Nick began his full time ministry career at Immanuel Baptist Church of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
In 1987 he relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia, to serve with Dr. Bruce O. Martin at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. In 1993, Nick returned to Fayetteville to Village Drive Baptist Church where he has ministered to preschool, youth, children, and adults for the past 23 years.
Nick’s lifelong ministry goals are to lead people of God to a greater knowledge of and into a deeper relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ by feeding them the Word of God and shepherding their hearts, to better equip the saints to accomplish His work and purposes, and to share with the unsaved how to find real life and true freedom in Christ.
Nick and his wife Theresa, also a native of Fayetteville, enjoy spending time together with their dogs, watching British dramas and cooking shows, and camping in their RV. Theresa is a graduate of UNC-CH. She is a high school English teacher. Nick’s hobby, much to the delight of his friends and family, is experimenting with new foods on his charcoal grill.
If he had to pick a favorite scripture, he would choose Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”
